In the best tradition of civic participation, Waterbury Neighborhood Council provides opportunity for our neighborhood associations to work together in shaping the decisions that affect the quality of life in Waterbury. We realize the most successful cities are those where citizens take an active role in local government and work together to improve our city.

Our mission statement eloquently summarizes our goals. The Waterbury Neighborhood Council is an organization comprised of the presidents and representatives from the Neighborhood Associations of Waterbury. The Council strives to encourage citizen involvement in both neighborhood and city issues, to strengthen existing Neighborhood organizations and foster the creation of new ones. It is the belief of the Waterbury Neighborhood Council that active citizen participation and involvement in city government and the issues that affect the quality of life in Waterbury is an essential step in both the preservation of our neighborhoods and the revitalization of the City of Waterbury.

Some of our accomplishments during the past few years include the following:

  • Worked to rewrite Waterbury ordinances and create the Waterbury Litter & Beautification Commission.
  • Protected the integrity of our neighborhoods from overdevelopment
  • Annually place the American flag on lamp posts throughout the downtown
  • Sponsored City Mayoral debates
  • Sponsored Yellow Ribbon campaign in Downtown Waterbury
  • Sponsored and advocated for public forums on important issues in Waterbury
